Symbiosis 62 – I’ve Lost

Bobby Jones hails from Portland, USA and creates ambient guitar pieces under the name I’ve Lost. The Feedbackloop label recently released his piece ‘Dissociative Fugue and after hearing it I asked him to create a mix for the Symbiosis chill out sessions. I hope you enjoy it.

“I created the “Stepping on Dust” mix a little bit differently than I typically, or most recently, have been working and creating. This one is a little more concept based. Though all of my work is concept based at some level, but this mix is somewhat less improvisational. My main and original inspiration started with this quote from Sherwood Anderson:

“I had suddenly an odd, and to my own seeming, a ridiculous desire to abase myself before something not human and so stepping into the moonlit road, I knelt in the dust, having no God, the gods having been taken from me by the life about me, as a personal God has been taken from all modern men by a force within that man himself does not understand but that is called the intellect, I kept smiling at the figure I cut in my open eyes as I knelt in the road…. There was no God in the sky, no God in myself, no conviction in myself that I had the power to
believe in a God, and so I merely knelt in the dust in silence and no words came to my lips.”

The second section has kind of an interesting story behind it. I was sitting at my computer and banging my head on the desk trying to work some stuff out for this project. My kids were screaming and crying and yelling, their toys were making all this din, just kind of a crazy day. I couldn’t think. So I just threw my computer into record using the built in microphone on my iMac. I took the file and screwed with it and plugged it in to the mix. I liked the way it felt so I kept it and started working again from there. It seemed to really express how I felt at the time, which is what I really try to do with my works.” – I’ve Lost
