Arranged in non-chronological sequence they are connected in a logical composition. All tracks have recorded in realtime mode from digital algorithms. And are parts of different collections of generative sounds and videos that was released in various places.”

Tell us how you got started making music and what is your musical background?

First my attempts of making music was in childhood. I remember a day when I found some musical instrument in my grandparents`s house. When I tried to do with it something I found that it could make some interesting sound. Then I tried to make some composition. And That process dave me into several hours of time. That instrument is called accordion. Later in time my parents brought me to a musical school where I studied classical guitar. Those time love to a music was grabbed me. After school I  tried myself in various bands of psyshedelic rock and funk music by playing like guitar and bass-guitar player. Some time later I met an experimental electronic music where I found everlasting space of sounds and musical aproaches. And from this point I  started making music Inspired by ideas of “what could it be – the music…”

How long have you been making tracks as v4w.enko – are the releases that came out around 2008 your first under that name and as a producer, or were you doing work under another name before that/not releasing material? Is the name made up or does it have some meaning?

As v4w.enko I am making tracks since 2007. The first release under name v4w.enko was released on Shanhai based label biv0uac. The release called 8 Hertz. It is an experiment that consist from 8 tracks of recorded sound from 8 simultaneous played generators of cycle, phasor and noise waves. Generators play in various frequencies which are the values of  8 in powers which are equal to various powers of value 2. Also main part of this experiment is the various levels of sounds of each generator. Sounds was multiplied one with another. The result is near to abstract sound with some strong rithmical textures. Now this label is transformed and the release is not availible there (like many other works of various artists). I keep it like it is. May be later I will rerelease it somewhere.

Now I am working in both: audio and visual dirrections just under v4w.enko name.

The name v4w.enko is like some identification in “machine style” symbols. In style when symbols could call some information layers from some explication or instruction. But It came from transliteration. I decided to make the name for this project by the way of merge the present human name with the experimental spirit of the project. When i tried to do this I found that transliteration is the best way. Becouse what is the transliteration? Transliteration is the practice of converting a text from one writing system into another in a systematic way. An example of transliteration is typing an e-mail using a qwerty keyboard and sending it in a non-qwerty script. So I found that this description is right for my approach in wich I try to input one abstract system of rules to another. So technically “v4w.enko” is transliteration of “Vaschenko” (in ukrainian simbols).

How would you describe your music?

Music in Real Time. From early steps I always  focusing on possibility to compose and to play the music in a moment of a present time. Is it possible to compose a music for an orchestra in the moment of the playing this music? What is an orchestra that could play and compose the music in the same moment? These questions may be have no answers but I always is near them whan I make something in music.

How do you approach making music? Do you start from a sound (or sounds), or an idea?

First of all is an idea. Idea to make some mood or spirit in musical structure. I always try to make music in real time. So in my approach I  do it algorithmically. Algorithms are very important part there. I use simple self-programmed algorithms in max/msp wich generate sounds in real time and recorder that records the sound. For me it is interesting to make some active multi-leveled and multi-layered structure  each part of wich could be transformed in time. Parts of this structure are corellated on with another by simple rules. Self-organised structures could be manipulated also by human. Human can make a choose wich part of the system should be transformed to drive whole process into right direction.

How did you start releasing with Kotra on his label, Kvitnu?

It was very pleasantly to find friends in Kvitnu. Once I offered some materials to KvitnuFest. Some time later Dmytro Fedorenko (Kotra) invited me to perform on Kvitnu. And near this time he offered me to make a release on Kvitnu. I agreed besause It was fantastic thing and I was happy. Not only becouse the Kvitnu is one of the more influented in experimental electronic space of Ukraine. But also because I found new friends in musical world. In this atmosphere was born release Harmonic Ratio wich is some black&white collage of sounds and visuals. So now it is passed two years and there are allready two releases done on Kvitnu. The second one is the work “CVXD+E” that was released this September.
