“This is a mix of field recordings by friends and colleagues. I put out
a bit of a blind-call. Asking friends involved with professional sound
design (Ann Kroeber, Douglas Quin, Michael Raphael) as well as sound artist/electronic musicians to send me a 1-4 minute field recording.
For the most part, these are unreleased recordings. I wanted to see if
I could construct some sort of narrative through juxtapositions and
long cross-fades. The quality and techniques are widely varied. From
Doug Quinn’s incredible hydrophone recordings to Steve Roden’s cell
phone capture of 2 cats fighting in an alley in Japan. Leah Beeferman
attached contact microphones to various machines in a science lab.
Andrew Deutsch sent a transfer from a videotape he shot in the Arctic
many years ago when he went to help setup a radio station for an
indigenous community. I included a few of my own recordings including
July 4th in Richmond, Virginia where you can hear my neighbor’s 14
hunting beagles as well as fireworks and radios.” – Stephen Vitiello

Cool idea – mixing from such varied sources. I enjoyed this, thanks.
Thanks for listening Sean. It’s the great power of field recordings to transport us to different times and locations, isn’t it?
